Members of the 179th Airlift Wing volunteer to donate blood at the Red Cross Bloodmobile Feb. 3, 2018, in Mansfield, Ohio. The Bloodmobile travels to different locations throughout various communities to make collecting blood easier and efficient. According to the Red Cross, 80 percent of the blood donations it receives annually are collected at mobile blood drives such as this one.

The Ohio National Guard celebrates African-American/Black History Month.

Staff Sgt. Eric Piime, a boom operator with the 121st Air Refueling Wing in Columbus, Ohio, performs his duties during an aerial refueling mission. Piime emigrated from Ghana to the United States and became a U.S. citizen so he could serve in the Air National Guard and contribute to the country he calls “a beacon of hope.”

Spc. Griffin Nyachae hosts event in traditional African attire.

Spc. Griffin Nyachae, a wheeled vehicle mechanic assigned to Company E, 1st Battalion, 137th Aviation Regiment, hosts the very first Afro-Deliciouz event in Columbus, Ohio. In his civilian life, Nyachae organizes events designed to exhibit African culture, and hopes to eventually build sustainable housing for the less fortunate in his native Kenya.

As part of the ongoing Ohio National Guard Leadership Development Series, Edwards discussed the roles and contributions of African-Americans in the military from World War I to the present day.

Master Sgt. Jason Amert instructs Airman First Class Austin Carpenter how to safely refill the C-130H Hercules with liquid oxygen, during a snow storm Feb. 7, 2018, at the 179th Airlift Wing in Mansfield, Ohio. LOX, shorthand for liquid oxygen, is used by the Air Force to provide breathing oxygen for pilots, and is 300 degrees below zero in liquid form. Winter Storm Liam dropped an average of 3-5 inches of snow on parts of Central and Northern Ohio Feb 6-7, but it did not stop the wing's maintainers from performing their duties.

Brig. Gen. Gordon L. Ellis receives the 38th Infantry Division flag during the unit’s change of command ceremony Feb. 11, 2018, in Indianapolis. Ellis came to the 38th Infantry Division headquarters in December 2014, where he’s served as the deputy commanding general for sustainment, and previously led the Ohio National Guard’s 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Afghanistan in 2011.
