Staff Sgt. John S. Worcester, a communications navigations and defensive systems technician with the 179th Airlift Wing, worked to maintain the LC-130 — a ski-equipped variant of the C-130 Hercules operated by the U.S. Air Force in the Arctic and Antarctica — in support of Operation Deep Freeze earlier this year at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. Operation Deep Freeze is a partnership between the Air Force and the National Science Foundation that provides logistical support to the scientific research being conducted in Antarctica.

Historical Highlight

General Pershing visits 37th Division

On Jan. 28, 1919, the 37th Division was inspected by Gen. John J. Pershing, commander in chief of the American Expeditionary Forces, in France during World War I. He presented several awards including the Distinguished Service Cross.
