MAKE Quality Your Priority

  • Be deliberate in planning to ensure a quality outcome.
  • Take pride in your work – don't rush to "check a block," but understand and focus effort toward objectives that accomplish the overall mission.
  • Don't pass a problem to an individual/team downstream to get an issue off your desk.

Quality doesn’t just “happen.” It’s the result of deliberate effort, attention to detail, and pride in what you do. Whether you're working on a maintenance checklist, planning a mission, or mentoring someone on your team — cutting corners only creates bigger problems. Checking a box isn’t enough. Slow down. Understand the why behind the task. Align your effort with the larger mission. That’s how you deliver results that mean something. If we’re just passing off issues to the next person to clear our desks, we’re not helping the team — we’re hurting it.

Wisdom doesn’t require years in service. You don’t need gray hair to be wise. But you do need maturity. Wisdom is knowing what you don’t know — and being okay with it. It’s what drives curiosity, patience, and good judgment. It’s how you build the habit of doing things right the first time, even when nobody’s watching because quality is your priority.

Leadership isn’t about knowing everything — it’s about staying humble, listening, and being sharp enough to recognize that a problem is deeper than it looks. That takes discipline and the courage to slow down and think ahead — second, third-order effects included. This week: Set the standard. Show what right looks like. Make quality your default setting.

Here’s your challenge:

  • Add “Make Quality Your Priority” in your email signature.
  • Take 2-3 minutes this week to talk about it with your team.
  • Post this message and the weekly Fundamental where your team can see it.

We are a team of professionals, and excellence is in our DNA.
