You wouldn’t step into a mission without preparing — a job interview shouldn’t be different.

Your military service has given you valuable experience and skills that employers are looking for, including leadership, teamwork, adaptability, problem-solving, accountability and the ability to perform under pressure. The challenge is making sure a civilian employer understands how those experiences can benefit their organization.

Preparation can make a big difference.

  • Take time to research the company and understand the position you’re applying for.
  • Think about your military experience and identify examples that demonstrate your strengths, accomplishments, and ability to overcome challenges.
  • Practice explaining those experiences in clear, civilian-friendly language and focus on the results you achieved, not just the duties you performed.

Remember, an interview is more than answering questions.
It’s your opportunity to tell your story, demonstrate what you bring to the team, and show an employer why your experience makes you a strong candidate.  — And you don’t have to prepare alone.
