Though more than a foot of snow delayed his return home by a day, the delay worked in favor of Staff Sgt. Jeremy Behnfeldt, who was able to see his daughter for the first time in over six months, on her 3rd birthday, Feb. 2, 2015, during a homecoming for members of the 180th Fighter Wing Security Forces. Behnfeldt and 12 fellow security forces Airmen deployed to Southwest Asia in July 2014 to conduct an air base defense mission in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Inherent Resolve.

The Ohio National Guard recognizes Col. Howard C. Gilbert, who was commander of the 2nd Battalion, 372nd Infantry Regiment from its reorganization in 1924 until he took command of the 372nd Infantry Regiment in 1940. He first enlisted in the Ohio National Guard in 1893 and was a veteran of World War I.

Christopher Wagstaff Feb. 10, 2015, during a transfer of authority ceremony from the South Carolina Army National Guard's 263rd Army Air and Missile Defense Command to the Ohio Army National Guard's 174th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, Task Force Luzon, which officially took over the manning of the Joint Air Defense Operations Center (JADOC). The members of the Ohio task force will stand watch at the JADOC, a key part of the command and control network for the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD)'s fully integrated, multi-layered air and missile defense in the National Capital Region.

The Ohio National Guard honors First Sgt. Robert Pinn, of Company I, 5th United States Colored Troops, who was one of only four black Soldiers from Ohio to receive the Medal of Honor during the Civil War. In 1974, the newly-built armory in Stow, Ohio was named in honor of Pinn.

The Ohio National Guard honors Col. Charles Young, the third black graduate of the U.S. Military Academy in 1889. Young was a member of the famous Buffalo Soldiers, before earning the rank of major in 1898 and being placed in command of the all-black 9th Battalion, Ohio Volunteer Infantry at Camp Algers, Va., a post he held until the battalion returned to Ohio in 1899.

It is with deep regret and sorrow that the Ohio National Guard announces the Feb. 24, 2015, death of retired Brig. Gen. Kermit A. Patchen.

It is with deep regret and sorrow that the Ohio National Guard announces the Feb. 24, 2015, death of retired Brig. Gen. Kermit A. Patchen, who held several key leadership positions including assistant quartermaster general, Ohio Army National Guard chief of staff and commanding general of the 16th Engineer Brigade. His interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
