Military children make up a very special part of our nation's population. Although young, these brave sons and daughters stand in steadfast support of their military parents through moves and deployments. To honor their unique contributions and sacrifices on behalf of our country, each April is designated the Month of the Military Child.

The Race to Eliminate Sexual Violence 5K Run/Walk will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Wolfe Park in Bexley, Ohio. Proceeds will benefit Deaf World Against Violence Everywhere and Buckeye Region Anti-Violence Organization.

Staff Sgt. Jack Colston, reports sergeant with the 371st Sustainment Brigade, inspects equipment at the Tactical petroleum Terminal (TPT) earlier this year at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. During the 371st's nearly yearlong deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Colston was responsible for daily preventative maintenance checks and services at the TPT, which supplies fuel to all military installations throughout Kuwait.

40th Anniversary of Xenia armory damage.

In about a 24-hour period on this day 40 years ago, April 3, 1974, there were 148 tornadoes confirmed in 13 U.S. states, the second largest tornado outbreak on record. An F5 (261-318 mph) tornado hit Xenia, Ohio at 4:40 p.m. April 3, killing 34, injuring 1,150 and completely destroying about one-fourth of the city while damaging another fourth of the city, including damage to the Xenia Armory. The Ohio National Guard aided civilian authorities with law and order as well as recovery efforts.

During the 371st's nearly yearlong deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Bloomer was responsible for pulling disabled equipment off of aircraft and relocating them to the Arrival/Departure Airfield Control Group yard.

On this day in Ohio National Guard history,
April 28, 1861,
the 145th Armored Regiment was established as the 7th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, with companies from Cleveland and northeastern Ohio, and mustered into federal service in the Union Army, participating in several major battles of the Civil War including Antietam, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. The regiment also has served in the Spanish-American War, World Wars I and II and the Global War on Terrorism.
