180th Fighter Wing takes part in Arctic Edge 2022

More than 100 Airmen and eight F-16 Fighting Falcons from the 180th Fighter Wing, deployed to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in early March to take part in Exercise Arctic Edge 2022, a biennial homeland defense exercise designed for U.S. and Canadian armed forces to demonstrate and exercise a joint capability to rapidly deploy and operate in the Arctic.

A rededication ceremony for the Sgt. Edward S. Doan Armory March 11, 2022, in Portsmouth, Ohio celebrated the completion of a two-year, $1.8-millon renovation. It marked the first of about 20 Ohio Army National Guard facilities that will be renovated through 2028.

Secretary announces revised Army Combat Fitness Test, outlines implementation

The Army recently issued a directive outlining a time-phased implementation of a revised Army Combat Fitness Test as the Army’s general physical fitness test, including new age-and-gender-performance scoring scales. Active Guard Reserve Soldiers are to begin taking the ACFT for record in October, followed by other Reserve and National Guard Soldiers in April 2023.

Ohio ANG pilot part of famed Apollo 13 spaceflight; later chronicled in movie

On April 11, 1970, Apollo 13 launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida with the mission of landing on the moon. The crew included lunar module pilot Capt. Fred Haise (right), a former fighter pilot with the Ohio Air National Guard’s 164th Tactical Fighter Squadron.
