From a young Soldier playing the flute in the band, to an experienced Airman responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, to a civilian leading cybersecurity for a presidential debate, Lt. Col. Thomas Butler’s career, both civilian and military, has been diverse, with each experience building toward the next. Butler, whose current civilian role is as director of cybersecurity intelligence for the Cleveland Clinic, was integral to establishing a network specifically created to monitor and thwart possible cyber threats during the first 2020 debate (pictured), held last September in Cleveland.

For Pfc. Tremaya Montgomery-Gadison, a unit supply specialist assigned to the 1485th Transportation Company based in Coshocton, Ohio, the camaraderie she has developed with her brothers and sisters in arms, while on duty to support COVID-19 relief efforts, has made a lasting impact on her life.

Rhoads reflects on time as JTF Fox commander

Ohio Army National Guard Col. David Rhoads led the joint task force headquarters that provides management and oversight to all Ohio National Guard and State Defense Force COVID-19 support missions requested through the governor’s office. He reflected on his rotation as JTF Fox commander: "What we’re doing is something worth doing, and I’m glad to have been able to help shape it.”

178th Wing sensor operator’s support saves hundreds of lives during California wildfires

Senior Airman Andrew , a sensor operator with the 178th Wing in Springfield, Ohio, provided critical support to firefighters and rescue crews during the historic wildfires in California during the summer of 2020, helping save hundreds of lives.

Stow armory named for U.S. Colored Troops hero during Civil War

First Sgt. Robert Pinn (1843-1911), Company I, 5th United States Colored Troops, earned the Medal of Honor during the Battle of New Market Heights, Va. on Sept. 29, 1864. A native of Stark County, he was the first Black Soldier to have an armory or readiness center named after him in the state, in the early 1970s, when the new Ohio Army National Guard Armory in Stow was opened.
