Ceremony signifies transition of assistant adjutants general for Army

A January change of command ceremony signified the transition from the outgoing assistant adjutant general for Army, Brig. Gen. Thomas E. Moore II, to the incoming one, Brig. Gen. Matthew S. Woodruff. Moore, a Cumberland, Ohio native, retires after a 33-year military career that includes service both on active duty and in the Ohio Army National Guard.

Brig. Gen. Matthew S. Woodruff, Ohio assistant adjutant general for Army, receives his general officer flag at a promotion ceremony at the Maj. Gen. Robert S. Beightler Armory in Columbus, Ohio, Jan. 6, 2023. Woodruff, a native of West Liberty, Ohio, has served as the assistant adjutant general for Army since October.

Michael Flaherty, incoming 37th IBCT commander, arrive for the 37th IBCT change of command ceremony June 25, 2021, at Fort Polk, La. The ceremony was conducted near the end of a monthlong training rotation for the 37th IBCT at Fort Polk’s Joint Readiness Training Center, which trains BCTs to conduct large-scale combat operations on the battlefield.

Col. Matthew S. Woodruff, commander of the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, buttons his Army Service Uniform coat to display his new rank with the help of his fiancée as part of a promotion ceremony Oct. 21, 2019, at the Maj. Woodruff encouraged everyone in the audience who came to show their support to get after it. “If you’re getting after it, then we’re all better,” Woodruff said. “If you have to get after getting after it, if you’ve got to do anything like that, that will make us all a better organization.”
