| National Honor Society gets support from Recruiting Command |
Story by 638th ASB unit public affairs representative COLUMBUS, Ohio - Two Soldiers from the Findlay recruiting office, Ohio National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion, recently volunteered their time to recognize some outstanding local students. Sgt. 1st Class Brian Clum and Staff Sgt. Jody Passeno delivered stuffed backpacks Mar. 31 to National Honor Society inductees from the Mohawk Local School District. The Army Combat Uniform digital print packs contained some essentials for a successful academic career along with a few goodies including: folders, pens, pencils, sweatshirts, t-shirts, key chains, water bottles, DVDs, rain ponchos and more. Like a scene from Christmas morning, many of the students ripped their backpacks open to examine their goodies. Although the ceremony was brief, the troops spent several weeks planning and preparing to accumulate all of the required items and ensure each student had the items that met their needs as well as correct sizes. Passeno was on hand to represent the Ohio Army National Guard and to hand out the goodie-stuffed “college bound commitment to excellence back-packs,” along with Ms. Lisa Zellner, the advisor and Maj. Brett Graham, also of the Ohio National Guard, who facilitated the event, to the 11 recently inducted members of Mohawk LSD National Honor Society. - 30 -
