How to Apply for a Position in the Active Guard/Reserve Program

The Active Guard/Reserve (AGR) program is active duty employment with the Ohio National Guard. All positions require military membership in the Ohio National Guard as a condition of employment. Positions are available for both the Army and Air National Guard.

Who Can Apply

Some positions are only open to current on-board AGR soldiers within the state of Ohio. Other positions are open for fill for "New Hires" and any current military member of the Ohio National Guard.  Other positions may be open to anyone who meets the basic requirements as listed on the announcement.

How To Apply

Interested applicants will submit documents as indicated below to the Adjutant General's Department, ATTN: AGOH-HRO-AGR (Staffing Technician), 2825 West Dublin Granville Road, Columbus, OH 43235-2789, not later than 1630 of business on the closing date.  APPLICATIONS MAY NOW BE EMAILED TO THE FOLLOWING ADDRESS:

Army AGR Required Documents:

1. NGB Form 34-1, dated October 2002, Signed, dated and annotated with job number and title.

2. Signed certified copy of DA Form 2-1.

3. Five latest OERs/NCOERs if available; if five are not available, submit a Letter of Recommendation.

4. NGB Form 23b (RPAM) –OR– DD Form 214.

5. Resume

Failure to comply with these procedures will result in return of application without action. When forwarding applications, government envelope and government postage will not be used. Incomplete application packets will not be processed.

Application Procedures

After the closing date of job announcement, packets will be submitted to the selecting official, who will follow required procedures and make a recommendation of an individual to be hired. Recommendations will be submitted to the Human Resources Officer (HRO) for his approval/disapproval. After HRO approval, all individuals who applied will be notified of their selection/non-selection by the selecting official.

NOTE: Your application will not be returned after a selection is made.

Qualification Requirements

Will vary by job type. Some are Admin, Supply and Training, etc. Some positions may be filled by males or females. Other positions may be open to only males. Job announcements will specify this requirement and all required qualifications will be listed.

Conditions Of Employment 

  1. Occupants of this position must maintain continuous military membership in the Ohio National Guard. ONG status (military grade, MTOE or TDA assignment, MOS/SSI/AFSC, military unit) and experience must be entered on the application. The recommended applicant will not be approved for appointment until they occupy a compatible MOS/AFSC in the ONG. 
  2. The applicant selected for this position will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit/Electronic Transfer Program. 
  3. The recommended applicant will not be approved for appointment until the appropriate physical examination is completed.

Military Assignment

Assignment to a compatible Enlisted/Officer/Warrant Officer position in Ohio National Guard  is mandatory. (Compatible MOS/AFSC will be indicated for specific position)

Individuals must participate with the unit, performing the duties outlined in the Full-Time Manning position description to the maximum extent possible, during all periods of IDT and AT in the prescribed military uniform.
