Ohio National Guard members affiliated with award, stand on stage to be recognized.

The Ohio Army National Guard was named the gold winner earlier this year in the 2018 Army Communities of Excellence competition among all Army National Guard submissions. The accomplishment was celebrated during a July 2, 2018, ceremony at the Maj. Gen. Robert S. Beightler Armory in Columbus, Ohio, where key contributors (pictured) to the award submission were recognized by Maj. Gen. Mark E. Bartman, Ohio adjutant general. The annual ACOE competition measures and recognizes the best performing installations and communities in the Army, based on assessment criteria including leadership, strategic planning, customer focus and results. It is the sixth time Ohio has won since 2003.

The Ohio National Guard wishes everyone a happy Independence Day, and gives thanks to our current and former Soldiers and Airmen who have helped Americans to enjoy more than 240 years of freedom. As we celebrate our nation's 242nd birthday this Fourth of July, please take time to remember the brave men and women who, from the Revolutionary War to the Korean War to the present, volunteered to serve. These Citizen-Warriors have sacrificed to protect the freedoms we are celebrating.

1-mile parade route to celebrate Independence Day and to catch sight of, and thank, military service members and veterans. Ohio National Guard support to the parade also included the 122nd Army Band and military vehicles.

Tolle, director of acquisitions and head of contracting activities for the National Guard Bureau, for outstanding achievement in mission accomplishment during the fourth annual Excellence in Contracting Awards Program ceremony July 12, 2018, at Fort Belvoir, Va. During federal fiscal year 2017, despite staff shortages, Farabee oversaw the completion of more than a thousand contracting actions worth more than $31 million and also volunteered to assist the Minnesota USP&FO to complete $2.3 million in contracts.

The 251st Cyberspace Engineering Installation Group has earned the 2018 Gen. Mark A. Welsh III One Air Force Award at the National Guard Bureau level, for integrated efforts and contributions to the U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM)'s command and control facility military construction project at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb. The largest such project in Air National Guard engineering installation history, it also involved efforts from the active duty, Air Force Reserve and other unified combatant commands.

Senior Master Sgt. Paul Emler, a boom operator with the 121st Air Refueling Wing in Columbus Ohio, operates the boom on a KC-135 Stratotanker July 20, 2018, somewhere over Michigan. During the mission, Emler reached the milestone of 9,000 flight hours. In addition to handling in-flight refueling of U.S. and allied aircraft, boom operators are responsible for a variety of additional duties during a mission including load planning, cargo handling, in-flight maintenance and passenger transport operations.
